Athletics

The Alverno Athletics Department features seven sport offerings – Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, and Volleyball – all competing on the NCAA Division III level and within the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). Athletics is committed to student-athlete centered learning and development. The department’s competitive programs focus on recruitment and retention of skilled student-athletes in order to achieve individual and team success.

In order to compete for the Inferno, student-athletes must meet NCAA, NACC, and Alverno College eligibility requirements. Interested students should reach out to a member of the coaching staff in the sports they are interested in joining, or being recruited to.

The department is housed in the Athletics & Fitness Building on the Alverno College campus and features full-length regulation basketball and volleyball courts, as well as two cross-courts for each sport inside the Reiman Gymnasium. Outdoor teams play on Alverno Field in the southwest corner of campus, featuring an NCAA-regulation grass soccer field, as well as a softball field.

The Athletics & Fitness building also features a recently renovated fitness center on the second floor that overlooks the gymnasium. The Fitness Center is open to all current students, faculty, and staff members. The fitness center include free weights, squat racks, treadmills, elliptical machines and stationary bikes.

Away from the field of competition, athletics is active in the community with its Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC); made up of student-athletes who, as leaders, provide insight on the student-athlete experience at both the conference and national level. Alverno has finished towards the top of the annual ‘Cans Across the Conference’ food drive since 2009, raising food items and other goods for local food pantries in the fall months.
