The Dual Adult-Gerontology Primary and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program prepares students to provide advanced primary and acute care to adults across the age continuum, adolescent to frail elderly. This program is a good fit for nurses who envision a future working as an advanced practice nurse in a specialty practice involving patients in good health and others suffering episodic, and complex chronic, acute, and critical illness. Students in the dual track program advanced knowledge and skills enabling high-quality, cost-effective direct patient care management from the time of hospital admission to discharge and in follow-up outpatient clinic visits. Students complete 50 credits in theory, advanced clinical procedures, and clinical practicum courses, including 1200 hours of supervised clinical practice in primary care (600 hours) and acute/critical care settings (600 hours), thereby expanding their scope of practice and increasing their employability. Completion of the dual track program requires only one semester more of full-time study than either the AGPCNP or AGACNP program alone. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to apply for dual national certification as an adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner and adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner as well as state-sanctioned prescriptive authority.
