Data Science in an interdisciplinary field about processes and systems to extract knowledge and insights from data in various forms. By its nature, it is applicable to all fields of knowledge. The purpose of a major, minor, or specialization in Data Science is to prepare students to understand large quantities of data and extract knowledge from that data, including the ability to pose meaningful questions based on their exploration of the data. These programs not only provide the student with the tools and analytical skills to understand the data, but also with the communication skills to explain the meaning of the data, and the ethical standards that are involved in this process.
