Alverno’s Environmental Science minor provides students with a way to integrate their knowledge from multiple disciplines to work on environmental issues. It includes required foundational coursework in multiple sciences (biology, chemistry and earth science), and will allow students to choose electives that best fit their personal or career goals while also clearly connecting to environmental science skill sets. In addition, the courses include a focus on communication skills, including using maps to communicate environmental data at a glance. Students can bring new perspectives by viewing environmental issues through frameworks from their major. Students can use skills learned or sharpened in this minor to advocate for environmental justice, to create more sustainable public or company policies, or to plan and carry out environmental research or conservation and restoration work.
