Doctor in Education, Teaching & Learning in Higher Ed

Today’s higher education students are more diverse than ever, including ethnic and cultural differences and differences in age, aspirations and previous life experience. There are also more ways to reach students than ever before, thanks to constantly expanding and evolving instructional technology.

At Alverno, you’ll gain the skills and qualification you need to teach effectively in the ever-evolving world of higher education. The Teaching and Learning in Higher Education concentration for our online EdD program offers you advanced knowledge of instructional design, instructional delivery and assessment — plus insight into the needs of today’s college students.

This program equips you for teaching roles in post-secondary institutions, including tenure-track positions. You may also be able to compete for leadership roles within academic departments, including dean roles, instructional coordinator roles or research director roles.

For 130 years, Alverno College has been dedicated to the education of women, preparing them for lives of personal and professional distinction and meaningful engagement with the world. Alverno extends this mission to men as well, through graduate and adult classes. We are a Catholic, liberal arts college with a curriculum so unique, educators from around the world come to Alverno to learn how we teach. Alverno’s abilities-based approach to learning ensures our graduates will learn more in class and retain knowledge longer. Students do not receive traditional grades, rather, they are assessed by faculty, community assessors, peers and themselves. Our small class sizes ensure students receive uncommon access to faculty. With an average student to teacher ratio of 10:1, you are guaranteed an individualized learning experience.
