  • Students who choose to pursue two undergraduate majors will earn a double-major BS degree, if both majors are a BS.
  • Students who choose to pursue two undergraduate majors will earn a double-major BA degree if both majors are BA.
  • Students who choose to pursue two undergraduate majors will earn two degrees; a BS and BA degree, if both majors are from different degrees.

Second Bachelor’s Degree Programs

Students who earned one baccalaureate degree from Alverno, may return to earn a second degree.  Students are required to complete additional Abilities when earning a second degree. Students are not required to complete additional General Education courses.  Regular Tuition rates apply for a second-degree Financial aid grants are not awarded for a second baccalaureate degrees; however, student loans may be awarded.

Students who did not graduate from Alverno:

  3. Demonstrate four developmental levels in each of the eight Abilities (communication, analysis, problem solving, valuing in decision making, social interaction, developing a global perspective, effective citizenship, and aesthetic engagement) equaling 32 Ability-level units

    • May pursue credit for prior learning (CPL) [link to CPL]

Students who graduated from Alverno:

  1. Demonstrate 40 Ability units.
  2. Must complete an additional 20 credits at Alverno in the major.

Change of Undergraduate Majors, Two Majors, Second Degree

Students are not required to complete additional General Education requirements if they change majors, if they seek more than one major, or are returning for a second degree. If a major requires a specific General Education course that is equivalent to another General Education course, the student must complete the required General Education course specific to the major.  Example: AHS409 is required for Art Majors to meet the GEC-300 requirement. If an Art Major changes to a Global Studies major, AHS-409 will count as the General Education course; students do not complete an additional GEC-300 course.

UNDERGRADUTE MINORS

An academic minor is a secondary area of study for a baccalaureate program.  A minor comprises 10 to 33 credits in a particular field of study.  Only one course may double count toward a major and minor.

Programs that require a minor are Community Engagement & Activisim (CENA), Global Studies & International Affairs (GLS), Psychology (PSY) & Social Work (SW).

Students cannot add a minor in their last term if it results in moving the anticipated completion date forward.
