Global Studies & International Affairs Programs

Major Information:

The Global Studies & International Affairs major starts with an introductory course in Global Studies where basic concepts and issues of global culture, international economics, and world politics are covered. Students complete courses from the various disciplines: economics, geography, history, and political science. Students combine the perspectives, concepts, and issues from these various courses in the Global Studies Senior Seminar.

Students learn about the world, research and language skills. Students may choose one of three paths for the major.

  • Path one requires four semesters of a world language. Heritage speakers, students with AP or IB credits, and students who take language proficiency assessments may be eligible to meet this requirement.
  • Path two combines 2 language and 2 research classes: BSC-255 Research Methods & BSC-256 Statistics.
  • Path three is all research: BSC-255, BSC-256MT-268 Introduction to Programming in Python and MT-368 Think Like a Data Scientist.

The Global Studies & International Affairs minor enables students to understand human events in a global context. Students learn to integrate a set of core global studies frameworks in the analysis of historical, political, economic and cultural processes. Students build on these understandings to synthesize diverse perspective on the interdependence of global systems.

Global Studies & International Affairs minors identify and articulate views on contemporary world issues. They learn to perceive and understand the roles of culture and worldview in global issues while developing the ability to facilitate the development of global awareness in others.
