Kinesiology Programs

Majors:

Kinesiology: Exercise Science Major Information:

Exercise Science is the most common major among students entering Physical Therapy school. It is a study of body movements and body response to physical activity. It integrates many disciplines such as physics, human anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, and kinesiology to study the process of physical activity in relation to health, fitness, and wellness. The development of exercise science track had started as a response to students’ feedback and inquiry. Degree in exercise science will allow students to seek employment in the areas of the sport and wellness, like fitness centers, athletic coaching/training, and recreational sports. Exercise Science is intended to be offered in the traditional weekday college time-frame, as a broad field track within the Kinesiology program.

Kinesiology: Exercise Science (KINE) Learning Outcomes:

  • Students demonstrate the use of communication techniques to foster inquiry, collaboration, and engagement in physical activity and health related settings (Communication)
  • Students analyze and evaluate their knowledge, abilities and actions relative to the professional standards of the discipline (Analysis)
  • Students use concepts of physical activity and health to demonstrate their ability to solve discipline specific problems from both a personal and professional perspective (Problem Solving)
  • Students demonstrate the use of leadership skills to improve quality of life for others and ensure equitable access to healthy life choices (Valuing and Decision Making)

Kinesiology: Physical Therapy (KINP) Major Information:

Kinesiology is the study of human movement prepares students to improve health outcomes. Students complete core work in the sciences and humanities. Then, focus in on examining how the body can function better, which is excellent preparation for pursuing a doctoral degree in physical therapy.

Internship opportunities

Students have access to many potential internship and job sites, including hospitals and health care organizations, major corporations, health-related nonprofit organizations, minor and major league sports organizations, and more. The Career Studio assists students with internships and is connected to more than 2,000 partner sites helping students find opportunity to advance their personal and professional goals.

Kinesiology: Physical Therapy (KINP) Learning Outcomes:

  • Students use clear and effective written, oral, visual, and electronic communication techniques to foster inquiry, collaboration and engagement in physical activity and health related settings (Communication)
  • Students analyze and evaluate their own knowledge, abilities and actions relative to professional standards, seek opportunities to grow professionally, and utilize self-assessment and assessment of others to foster physical, cognitive, social and emotional well-being (Analysis)
  • Students use fundamental concepts of physical activity and health, conduct scientific inquiry, and apply critical thinking to solve problems from personal, scholarly, and professional perspectives (Problem Solving)
  • Students demonstrate leadership and social responsibility in order to improve quality of life for others and ensure equitable access for diverse groups by creating appropriate environments to initiate and maintain a physically active, healthy lifestyle (Valuing in Decision Making)
  • Students compose a plan for professional development and lifelong learning continuing to advance the knowledge level in the kinesiological sciences (Problem Solving)
